Since the late 1960s Hassan Heshmat regularly visited his brother-in-law, Dr. Ahmed Hegasy - first in Cologne, then in Leverkusen, accompanied by his wife Madiha or one of his children. Sometimes he drove from Egypt with his artworks in the car, taking a ferry from Alexandria to Italy. On one occasion, he organised a direct sale in the Hegasy family’s living room once they had moved to Leverkusen. He also talked with them about his work for the memorial in Hasselt.
