Marie L. Bishara

Marie L. Bishara, CEO of B.T.M. and daughter of Louis Bishara, is continuing her father’s philanthropic work. His private collection is with her today. She persuaded her father to do an internship with Hassan Heshmat in Ain Shams in the 1980ies, and decided to study art at university in Cairo. In 2023 Heshmat’s eight-metre-high sculpture Inṭilāqat Miṣr (The Awakening of Egypt) was inaugurated in 10th of Ramadan city. The statue, which tens of thousands of people passed by every day, had to make way a few years ago for the construction of a bridge. Popularly known as Gala’a Masr, as it stood by the bridge of the same name in el-Nozha, and in reference to the Anglo-Egyptian Agreement of 1954 on the evacuation of British forces. Marie L. Bishara had it removed and completely restored. It now stands at a roundabout in 10th of Ramadan City not far from her company.
