Frieda and Adolf Haude

Frieda and Adolf Haude were the landlords of Hassan Heshmat and his wife Zeinab (Zuzu) in Ahornweg 6 during the academic year 1957–58, while Heshmat was studying at the Technical School of Porcelain. They lived there with their son, Heinz (b. March 4, 1924), and daughter-in-law, Anneliese (b. December 24, 1934). Their daughter, Karin, was born on 4 July 1957. In 2025, Karin Charbonnel (née Haude) got in touch with ZMO when she found a photo of hers as a baby on Christmas eve 1957 together with her family and the couple Hassan and Zuzu in ZMO’s audio-visual exhibition H_Heshmat_digital. The same photos were circulating in the Haude family as well as in the Heshmat family. In 2026, I had the opportunity to interview Anneliese and Karin on July 31 and August 1, respectively. Karin and her grandmother Frieda met the artist again in 1971 when he visited a neighbour in Ahornweg working for ceramics industry, namely Leo Pöpperl. On that occasion, Heshmat presented Karin with a dancer from his series, inscribed “Fur Karin,” which she has preserved and shown to Hegasy. The object provides material corroboration of the remembered encounter. Karin Haude and Heshmat’s son, Alaa, subsequently began a pen-pal friendship that continued into their adult years.
