Not far from the Baron Empain Palace, Le Méridian Heliopolis Hotel opened in 1987. It had commissioned several statues by Hassan Heshmat. As a deliberate design feature for the hotel entrance, we find a pair of monumental falcons, positioned symmetrically to the left and right of the driveway. The falcons stand in pairs as ‘gatekeepers’ at the entrance. We also find the daughter of the Nile. The hotel was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
